Martin Meehan was a republican activist who was a member of the IRA. He talks about his role in the defence of Ardoyne during the attacks in August 1969. He describes the Ardoyne Relief Centre and how families moved into a school when they feared being burned out of their houses. He describes the bus barricades and stealing SLR guns from a boat returning surplus weapons to England. He describes the ways that the community first interacted with the British soldiers and the point when they realized the soldiers weren’t there to protect people. Martin Meehan died in 2007.
